When you have a board overseeing the operations of your support team organisation part of their role is to make the “big decisions”.
Examples are decisions that…
- involve risks or opportunities to the vision for the good life of the person such as where the person might live.
- involve large amounts of money from the budget such as purchasing expensive technology, or having to pay increased rent
- involve a change in plans, goals and strategies the team are working towards or using
Board members are legally responsible for making sure they do their “due diligence” in making a decision. ASIC (one of the regulatory bodies overseeing legal entities) describes this as taking the steps any reasonable person would be expected to do in the same situation.
Here is a board decision making framework to help your board make sure they have done what a reasonable person would be expected to do when making a decision.
